Neonatal Resuscitation Program
NRP
This GreenCo Education Program offering of the Neonatal
Resuscitation Program (NRP), was developed by AHA and The American Academy
of Pediatrics and is presented by qualified instructors and licensed providers
by agreement with GCE as the support and coordinating body only.
NRP is an educational program that introduces the
concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. Anyone responsible
for any part of a neonatal resuscitation is an appropriate candidate for
an NRP course.
All courses require extensive home study of the
current
Textbook
of Neonatal Resuscitation, current Edition. A multimedia CD-ROM is also
available to complement home study.
The initial/first time participant is
required to have a book with them at class and cost of the book is not
part of the class fee.
Courses include classroom discussion and practice
sessions, with written and skills testing. Upon successful completion of
the program, participants are eligible to receive an NRP course completion
card, and may be eligible for CE's and/or Category II CME Credits, etc.
Completion of the program does not imply that an individual has the competence
to perform neonatal resuscitation.
Standard Provider and Renewal courses consist of
seven lessons and 4 skills stations:
Lesson 1 Overview and Principles of Resuscitation
Lesson 2 Initial Steps in Resuscitation
Lesson 3 Use of a Resuscitation Bag and Mask
Lesson 4 Chest Compressions
Lesson 5 Endotracheal Intubation
Lesson 6 Medications
Lesson 7 Special Considerations
Since resuscitation responsibilities vary among
health care providers, participants may choose to work through only those
lessons appropriate to their level of responsibility. A course completion
card can be issued to those who successfully complete a minimum of lessons
1 through 4.
NRP Initial and Renewal
Provider Course

Hampton Inn or Courtyard
Marriot
Designed for those who have never completed an NRP
Provider Course, or whose NRP Provider card has lapsed or will soon be
expired. The course consists of seven lessons covering different aspects
of resuscitation. Participants may choose to work through only those lessons
appropriate to their level of responsibility or licensure. (minimum requirement
is Lesson 1-4). Participants who wish to complete the minimum requirement
should specify when registering.
Upon Completion of this course, each participant
should be able to:
1. Review key concepts associated with effective
resuscitation procedures, including physiology and elements of preparation.
2. Identify and perform the necessary steps
in stabilizing an infant immediately following delivery.
Describe techniques and assisting/performing
the following:
1. Positive pressure ventilation
2. Chest compressions
3. Endotracheal intubation
4. Explain ;and perform recommendations for
the use of pharmacologic agents when resuscitating a neonate.
5. Discuss organization of Neonatal
Resuscitation Program.
If at the end of any course the participant isn't
comfortable with any portion of the presentation; their understanding of
any concept or motor skills, GCE will remediate with that individual
one on one until they are comfortable with their proficiency!.
